On Thursday 9th October 2014, Level 3 Travel and Tourism Students from Sussex Coast College Hastings were invited to visit the head office and central reservation call centre of a UK tour operator, Park Holidays UK, which is based in Hastings.

The students were invited into the company’s board room by Marketing Director Geoff Barnes. Mr Barnes and the marketing department gave a presentation on Park Holidays UK, their marketing strategies and promotional activities.

A guided tour of the head offices was next and the students were introduced to the marketing department, which allowed for any questions to be asked directly to the staff members. Questions asked were relevant to the unit of ‘Sales and Marketing in Travel and Tourism’, which the students are currently studying.

The students were then taken for a tour of the tour operator’s reservation call centre where Wendy Garnett gave a short lecture to introduce the call centre activities and the part it plays in the company.

Students then toured the Coghurst Hall entertainment venue and finally were given the keys to look around some brand new caravans on site, enabling them to experience first-hand the inside of luxury caravans and their amenities.

Marketing Director, Geoff Barnes said, ‘It was a pleasure to discuss our marketing strategies and promotional activities with the students from Sussex Coast College. The students asked some very relevant questions. They looked and behaved very professionally.’

Student Jack Wickison said, ‘We learnt so much about Park Holidays UK, especially the in-house operations. This visit will be really helpful for our assignment.’
