Jody Kingsmill left Helenswood knowing she wanted a career in the Hospitality and Catering industry. She is now enrolled on level 2 Hospitality and Catering at SCCH and is more passionate about cooking than ever, planning to travel the world with her skills, before settling down as a Patisserie Chef.

Jody said, ‘You have to be passionate about food or working with people. The course is not all practical; there is some coursework involved which fits different learning styles.’

‘To work in the catering industry, you have to be able to work under pressure and think on your feet as if there is a problem to solve, you can’t leave the customer waiting.’

‘We get practice of this in the training restaurant, working with a real chef, not a lecturer, who has a joke but is serious when needed, shouting at us when necessary. It really helps us be prepared for a job in the industry.’

Jody concluded, ‘The tutors are nice and are willing to help you at any time of the day. However, the best thing about studying here is you get work experience whilst at the College in Dine (the college canteen) Coast Coffee (Costa branded coffee shop) and Coast Restaurant (in-house silver service restaurant). All of this looks great on your CV and prepares you for a career across the hospitality industry.’
