Coastal Communities at Sussex Coast College Hastings

The Coastal Communities project aims to support the community and local buiness through free training opportunities.

Staff at 1066 Target Sports are celebrating after receiving their WorldHost Business Recognition award. The target sport centre opened last year at Ashdown House, Sedlescombe Road North and offers a range of target sports from crossbow to archery.

Staff at the centre came together to receive WorldHost training in Customers with Disabilities, showing their commitment to disability awareness training.

The WorldHost programme is now gaining popularity in Hastings, with an increasing amount of local businesses taking part in the training programme.

Sussex Coast College Hastings is currently offering this gold standard training programme for free due to the Coastal Communities funding in partnership with Hastings Borough council.

We're very pleased to announce that The Old Rectory in the Hastings old town has become our latest WorldHost Recognised Business.

This luxury bed and breakfast recently took part in our WorldHost training programme, training 50% of their staff in the leading customer service programme.

Staff and volunteers at the Hastings Fishermen’s Museum have been awarded a WorldHost Recognition award for their commitment to improving customer service standards.

The training took place at the Hastings Stade hall, where employees and volunteers learnt best practice for greeting visitors and the importance of maintaining a positive attitude.

The WorldHost training programme is now gaining popularity in Hastings, with an increasing amount of local businesses taking part in the training programme.

Season’s Greetings from all the Coastal Communities Team.

This year has been fantastic for the Coastal Communities project, we’ve supported hundreds of hard-to-reach learners through our pre-employment training programme and seen many learners progress on to full time jobs or further education and training programmes.

We’ve also supported local businesses within the tourism industry by training almost 200 business employees and business owners in social media, marketing and customer service.

We were also delighted to award WorldHost recognition plaques to over 15 businesses, who gained recognition for their commitment to improving customer service in their business.

Last Wednesday, saw local businesses come together for our latest social media workshop.This workshop introduced the concept of creating a social media strategy and the importance of planning in order to get the best results.

Social media expert, Mark Baldwin shared his top tips and time saving tricks of the trade to ensure the best success for local businesses.

This workshop was very well attended by a range of businesses from retailers, hotels, restaurants, cafes and tourist attractions. The workshop also served as a great networking platform for businesses to meet each other and to share their own social media tips and techniques.

The Pier Charity has been awarded a WorldHost Recognition plaque for their commitment to improving customer service standards.

Staff and volunteers at the Pier Charity came together to train at the Hastings Pier Hub located on Hastings seafront. Volunteers learnt best practice for greeting visitors and the importance of maintaining a positive attitude.

WorldHost is the leading customer service training programme in the UK and has been used to train over ten thousand volunteers at the London Olympics, as well as top hotels and retailers nationwide.

The WorldHost programme is now gaining popularity in Hastings, with an increasing amount of local businesses taking part in the training programme.

Sussex Coast College Hastings is currently offering this gold standard training programme for free due to the Coastal Communities funding in partnership with Hastings Borough council.

The Jerwood Gallery has been awarded a WorldHost Recognition plaque for their commitment to improving customer service standards.

Staff and volunteers at the Jerwood Gallery came to together last month to take part in the unique WorldHost customer service training programme. The WorldHost programme offers gold standard customer service training and has been used to train over ten thousand volunteers at the London Olympics, as well as top hotels and retailers nationwide.

Businesses can receive recognition status once 50% of their staff have completed the WorldHost training programme. The Jerwood has become the first gallery in Sussex to become WorldHost Recognised and is part of a growing number of businesses and organisations in Hastings who have achieved WorldHost recognition.

Rebecca Fletcher, Front of House Coordinator commented "We were delighted to have been given the opportunity to be part of the WorldHost training scheme in Hastings, and to become a WorldHost Recognised organisation. The WorldHost training was useful for our staff and volunteer team in supporting them to develop a unified approach in delivering a more focused customer service."

To date over 20 businesses in Hastings have taken part in the WorldHost training programme, with over 150 employees receiving training- with so many businesses taking part in the training,  Hastings looks set to become the first WorldHost Destination in the South East, following on from other towns across the UK such as Bristol, Hull, Lincolnshire, Canterbury and Liverpool.
