What will I learn?

During this tow-year course you will be able to understand and create visually engaging design work.

You will gain a thorough introduction to the subject of graphic design, building an understanding of the principles of this fascinating subject and its impact and relevance to our culture and industry. You will learn practical skills in editing, image manipulation, traditional and digital drawing techniques, illustration techniques, learn how to develop your ideas, experiment with a range of materials, and master a range of new techniques and processes.

You will produce practical and critical work in:

  • Illustration
  • Advertising
  • Design for print
  • Packaging design
  • Computer graphics
  • Film
  • Communication graphics
  • Animation
  • Multimedia
  • Web design
  • Television and/or video
  • Developing your ideas
  • Experimenting with relevant materials
  • Techniques and processes

You will be assessed on your ability to develop ideas, experiment with relevant materials, techniques and processes, and present a personal, informed and meaningful response to subject briefs.

What could I progress on to?

After the course you may progress onto a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design or head to University to study Degree subjects in Art & Design.

Once you gained this qualification there are a number of career opportunities available to you including working in Graphic design, Illustration, Packaging design, Animation, and Digital design.

During the course you may be required to buy specialist equipment and materials for you work and in particular for your final year exhibition.
