AS/A Level Sociology

What will I learn?

During this two-year course you will explore the social landscape of the modern world and gain a range of analytical skills to prepare you for further study.

During the course you will explore the concepts of culture and socialisation and how gender, ethnicity and religion may or may not affect what opportunities you have in life. You will understand how social structures and identities work, and will develop the skills and evidence you need to challenge the label that other individuals, groups or organisations may have given you. You will be introduced to the theories, methods and methodologies necessary to analyse the following topics:

  • Culture and socialisation
  • Methods and methodology
  • Youth culture and subculture
  • Crime, deviance, victimisation
  • Social stratification
  • Measurement of inequality

Your progress will be regularly assessed by tests and coursework, with regular feedback and guidance being offered for constant improvement.

What could I progress on to?

A-level Sociology is well regarded by universities and may allow you to study it further at some of the top universities in the country.

There could be a number of career opportunities available to you after completing the course in areas such as Journalism, Teaching, Politics, Market research, or Trend analysis.

There may be some additional costs during the course for trips and visits to further your learning.
