What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 4 GCSEs grade A*/9 - D/3 including English and maths.

What will I learn?

During this one-year course you will gain a greater understanding of the business environment and business functions.

During the course you will study a variety of topics such as marketing, sales, customer service, finance, and business communications. You will investigate the latest developments and innovations in the business world and gain a solid grounding in essential skills for business which include, team working, ICT, working to deadlines, making presentations, and completing assignments. 

You will explore and develop a range of practical skills in:

  • Enterprise in the Business World

  • Finance for Business

  • Promoting a Brand

  • Introducing Retail Business

  • Recruitment, Selection & Employment

  • Principles of Marketing

  • Public Sector Business

  • Visual Merchandising in Retail Business

  • Small Business Planning

  • Introducing Project Management

  • Delivering & Improving Customer Service

  • Introducing International Business

Work experience is an integral part of the course and the college has connections with a large number of local employers who will offer you the opportunity to apply the skills you learn on this course.

This is a mixed assessment qualification, and you will be assessed through assignments, reports, team work, presentations and examinations.

What could I progress on to?

This course will help to open doors to progression into further study and responsibility within the workplace.

You may wish to study an HND in Business at the College, or further study in law, accounting, marketing or HR, or an advanced apprenticeship.

With additional training, you can progress into roles including:

  • Trainee Accountant
  • Human Resources Administrator
  • Marketing Assistant
  • Sales Assistant
  • Team Leader

A fee of £50 is required at enrolment to meet the cost of course visits.

Sometimes it can be difficult to decide the right level at which to study. The guide below will help you work which level is best for you.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
