Health & Social Care Certificate Level 2

What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 4 GCSEs grade A*/9 - D/3 including English and maths; or successful completion of the Level 1 Award in Health & Social Care. DBS check will be required.

What will I learn?

During this course you will develop your knowledge of the care sector and become a skilled care worker.In the first year you will work towards your award in Health and Social Care, and in the second year you will work towards your diploma.

You will build on your knowledge and interpersonal skills gained from the Level 1 course and increase your knowledge and understanding about health and social care values, understand the importance of healthy living, cooking healthy food recipes, and learn about the anatomy of the human body. You will also complete GCSE English and Maths or Functional Skills.

Units you will cover during the course will include:

  • Health and Social Care Values
  • Effective Communication in Health and Social Care
  • Healthy Living, Nutrition, Health and Wellbeing
  • Equality and Diversity in Health and Social Care
  • Individual Rights in Health and Social Care
  • Human Body Systems and Care of Disorders
  • Creative and Therapeutic Activities in Health and Social Care

There will be an emphasis on working skills and practices that will aims to give you the opportunity to enter employment in a range of jobs across the health and social care sector.

During this course you will be able to broaden your knowledge of health and social care practices and develop a range of essential skills that you will be able to use right across the sector.

There are two external exams. The rest of the units are to be assessed through displays, production of leaflets, presentations and written work.

What could I progress on to?

On completion of the course you can progress onto Level 3 courses in Health and Social Care or Child Care.

You may also start your career as a Care support worker, Individual needs worker or an Activities leader

Sometimes it can be difficult to decide the right level at which to study. The guide below will help you work which level is best for you.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
