What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 5 GCSE's A*-C in Academic subjects or Equivalent Qualification including English at C grade and Maths at D grade and DBS check

What will I learn?

This one-year advanced-level qualification will develop your knowledge of health and social care in more detail and prepare you for a career in the industry or studying at university, should you wish to take that career path.

During this two-year advanced level qualification will go deeper into the theory of health and social care which will give you the perfect preparation for further study at university. You will explore what makes effective communication, understand sociological and psychological perspectives, learn more about the human body during anatomy and physiology sessions. You will also be able to put your learning into practise during a work placement, taking advantage of our extensive links with local health and social care organisations. Modules you will cover include:

  • Developing effective communication
  • Equality, diversity and rights
  • Health, safety and security
  • Development through the life stages
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Personal and professional development
  • Sociological perspectives
  • Psychological perspectives

All assignments will be in the form of course work, role-play exercises film making, open book tests and exhibitions and presentations as well as written essays.

What could I progress on to?

On competition of the course you could progress onto the second year of the qualification to gain an Extended Diploma.

On completion of the second year you may be able to start your career as a Paediatric nurse, a Nurse, a Midwife, a Childcare development officer, or an Occupational therapist

Students on this course will be charged for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to enable the college and the placement settings to check any criminal convictions that may affect your ability to work in this sector. (This replaces the old Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks.) The current cost is £55. During the course there will also be an additional cost for educational visits.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
