Level 3 Childcare - Early Years Educator

What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 5 GCSE's A*-C in Academic subjects or Equivalent Qualification including Maths and English at C grade and DBS check

What will I learn?

During this one-year course you will learn all the skills and knowledge to be able to become an Early Years Educator, nursery nurse and child-minder, preparing you for work in a variety of settings.

Duringthe course you will use your knowledge from previous study as a springboard to become an Early Years Educator. You will gain a thorough understanding of the Children’s Learning and Development sector, develop your ability to plan and prepare, as well as build your confidence to become an effective teacher of young people. There are theoretical and vocational elements to this course allowing you to put your learning into practise within a childcare setting.Modules you will study include: Understanding children's Early Years education and development Implementing Early Years foundation stage Diversity, equality and inclusion Plan and provide effective teaching and learning Make accurate and productive use of assessment Develop effective and informed professional practice Promote the health, safety and well-being of children Child protection and safeguarding partnershipThe course combines theory and work experience. The fact that you will be learning in a childcare setting will give you the best possible start to a career path in childcare and education.

You will be assessed by a range of methods, including direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments and practical tasks.

What could I progress on to?

Once you have completed this course you could progress onto a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or progress onto Higher Education courses at the University Centre Hastings.We have excellent links with local children and young people's settings and organisations so can help you find the perfect placement to further your career in roles such as a Nursery assistant or Child minder.

Students on this course will be charged for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to enable the college and the placement childcare settings to check any criminal convictions that may affect your ability to work in this sector. (This replaces the old Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks.) The current cost is £55.During the course there will also be an additional cost for educational visits.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
