What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 5 GCSE's A*-C or Equivalent Qualification and a connection to music

What will I learn?

Building on your knowledge and experience from previous study you will develop the necessary skills to compose, perform, produce and record music to a professional standard.

During our two-year advanced music course we will encourage you to work creatively, both on your own and in groups to fulfil project-based assignments. You will learn additional skills to compose music for film and documentaries, explore the world of marketing and promotion in the music industry, and develop personal qualities of a freelance music practitioner, readying you for a career in the industry. Our expert tutors will also give you guidance and support while completing your UCAS application should you want to progress to Higher Education.During the course you will learn about: - Music sequencing and production - Live music performance - Digital recording and production - Composing music - Composing for film and documentary - Understanding recording techniques - Music marketing and promotion - Working as a freelance music practitioner - Digital synthesis - Recorded music performance

Your assessments will consist of 70% practical projects and 30% coursework assignments. You will also receive regular feedback about your progress and assignments from your tutors. Assignments will be set with strict deadlines.

What could I progress on to?

On completion of the course you could progress on to a course at Higher Education level. You may wish to start your career in the music industry in roles such as a Sound engineer, a Sound technician, a Music publisher, working in events management or have the talent to get your chance as a performer.

You may need to supply your own kit and equipment and essentail study material, such as headphones and storage devices, costing approximately £50.

Sometimes it can be difficult to decide the right level at which to study. The guide below will help you work which level is best for you.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
