Plumbing Studies Level 3

What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing, and GCSE or Functional Skills English and maths at the appropriate level.

What will I learn?

You will be able to fine tune your skills in plumbing to understand complex systems and installations. You will learn about the principles and requirements of environmental technology systems, understand system installation planning and increase your knowledge in complex water systems. You will also learn about domestic gas principles which will open a pathway for you to train in Gas Installation. There will also be an opportunity to improve your employability skills during work expereince placements before you head off and start your career as a plumber.

Units during the course include:

  • Health and safety in building services engineering
  • Principles and requirements of environmental technology systems
  • Plumbing system installation planning
  • Complex cold water systems
  • Hot water systems
  • Sanitation and drainage systems
  • Central heating systems
  • Domestic gas principles

During this advanced course you will learn a range of advanced skills in plumbing which will provide a great foundation for your career or to go on to specialise in new technologies.

Assessments will take place throughout the duration of the course. Practical tasks will make up 50% of the assessment and 50% will be made up of exams. Accuracy and being able to complete tasks within a set time constraint are essential for successful completion. Constructive feedback from your tutor will also help you to improve and progress towards recognised industrial standards.

What could I progress on to?

On completion of the course you can progress onto a Level 4 HNC in Construction or start an apprenticeship in plumbing.

There are a number of career opportunities available to you including working as a Plumber, a Heating Engineer, an Air-conditioning and refrigeration systems engineer, or a Site Manager.

A range of specified PPE and a basic plumbing tool set will be required for this course and will cost approximately £120.

The PPE required will consist of safety boots, work trousers, navy/black polo shirt, gloves, hi-vis vest and safety glasses. There are also a number of opportunities throughout the year for various construction related trips which may also incur a cost.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
