What entry requirements do I need?
You will need a minimum of: Full Level 2 qualification (eg either 5 or more GCSEs A* - C, NVQ level 2, GNVQ intermediate, BTEC 1st Diploma or functional skills) , Appropriate level of English Language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening), Good IT Skills, 19+ on first start date of course and have been living in the UK/EAA for the past 3 years, Be aware of the amount of study time you will need to invest, Access to a PC/laptop for 2 hours per week, Offer of a place is conditional (enrolment will take place only if the induction unit is passed within the induction period)

The ABE Level 2 Award in Setting Up Your Own Business is delivered 100% via ELearning, so you do not need to attend classes in the College, allowing you flexibility to study at times to fit around your existing commitments.
This short qualification is designed for anyone who is considering setting up their own business or being self-employed. It highlights the features and challenges so that informed decisions can be made. The qualification culminates in a self-assessment of whether setting up on your own is the right career decision for you. During the programmes you will use a wide range of skills which can be applied to many careers.
Sussex Coast College offer a 14-day Induction Period for this course which enables you to assess whether both the course and the online mode of study is suitable for you. It also allows the College to assess your suitability, in particular whether you can produce work to meet the standards set by ABE, the awarding body.
The induction is conducted online so you don't have to travel to our campus. During the week you will receive your login details to the VLE and a welcome phone call from your assessor to discuss how to attempt the induction unit.
You will be sent a deadline/due date by e-mail which allows you two weeks to submit answers to the induction assessment. If you don't meet the pass criteria for the induction assessment you won't be enrolled onto the course and you won't have any fee liability. You will not incur any fees during the induction period.
Enrolment onto the qualification will take place once you have passed the induction assessment and have funding in place for the course fees.
If you wish to withdraw, you may cancel your enrolment by notifying the Administration Team in writing (by e-mail) prior to day 14 and you will owe nothing. After 14 days, you will be charged a percentage of the course fee.

A total of 3 credits are required to complete the course and achieve the qualification.
You should allow a total of around 25 study hours to complete the whole qualification, over 4 months if you study for 2 hours each week. If you study more hours each week you may finish the course more quickly.
This study time includes:
- working through the interactive content, including the activities
- completing the final assessment questions for each element
- reading assessor feedback and reviewing the course materials or other sources as directed
- re-submitting your assessment answers where requested within the set deadlines
This is a knowledge based course, and you will be required to answer questions and provide researched evidence, complete templates and create Word documents and charts.
The assessment method for this course is via a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). In order to prepare your 1500-word assignment, you are required to successfully complete tasks that relate to the 4 elements of your course; you assessor will give you feedback on these tasks. These tasks will feed into your assignment.
Your completed assignment will be first-marked by your assessor and then submitted to the awarding body for moderation and grading.

What could I progress on to?
On completion of the qualification you could go on to study the Level 3 Certificate in Business Start-up and you will be able to:

You can pay all or part of the fee yourself. You must pay this in full before you start your course. Fees are not refundable except when the College cancels, relocates or changes the time and date of a course for any reason. Students are liable for the balance of any fees remaining unpaid should they withdraw early. Please note the College offers a range of instalment plans to allow you to stagger your payments by Direct Debit.

*Spreading the cost:**
Payment in instalments is available for courses costing over £200 that last longer than 15 weeks. For course fees above £400, a deposit of 25% is required once you pass the induction and are enrolled. This is then followed by three equal instalments during the course The instalment payments can be taken either on a debit/credit card (must still be in date by the third instalment), or alternatively you may pay by Direct Debit If you would like to pay by instalments, you will need to complete the fee payment form on application Employer funded - If youre being supported by your employer or a sponsor, youll need to provide a letter of authorisation on application
You will not incur any fees during the induction period.
If you wish to withdraw, you may cancel your enrolment by notifying the ELearning Administration Team in writing (by e-mail) prior to day 14 and you will owe nothing. After 14 days, you will be charged a percentage of the course if you are paying with an instalment plan.
If you have paid your fees in full and an individual or employer cancels less than 14 working days before the start of the course then the College operates a no refund policy.
