HND Mechanical Engineering
What will I learn?
During this 2 year HND you will explore the key concepts of engineering in much more detail, building on the things you have learned in the HNC course. You will cover aspects of mathematics, manufacturing and design, understanding how they relate to the practical working environment.
HNDs are an established and well-respected qualification that provides the perfect foundation to build your career and a route into the final year of a full engineering degree.
Students will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for performance in a professional working environment. This will enable individuals to make an immediate contribution to the companies they work for.
During the course you will study a range of topics including:
- Analytical methods for engineers
- Engineering science
- Instrumentation and control
- Business management techniques
- Mechanical principles
- Advanced CAD techniques
- Project design, implementation and evaluation
What could I progress on to?
On completion of the HND you can move onto a BSc (hons) top up course to complete a full degree.
You may decide to start your career as an engineer and find roles within local and national businesses as a technician or supervisor.
Past students have gone on to work with local businesses such as Qinetiqs, where graduates secure technician, supervisor and management roles. Past students have worked with companies such as EDF, Aero Vintage, Photek, Deutsch(TE), Secol Engineering, VG Scienta, Stevens Rowsell, British Gypsum and Interface Engineering.
