What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 4 GCSE's A*-C and grade 4-9 Including English, Maths and science subject or Equivalent Qualification

What will I learn?

During this one-year course you learn a range of skills and gain the technical knowledge you need to start your career in the beauty industry.

You will use your passion and enthusiasm for helping people to look and feel good, to build your understanding and skills in the beauty industry. This fast-paced course will give you an excellent mix of practical lessons in our fully-equipped salon, building your experience in performing treatments such as waxing, manicure and pedicure services, and skin care treatments on paying clients. You will also carry out salon reception duties, manage bookings, handle payments and replenish stock. Our expert tutors will also give you an insight into the theories and science behind treatments and products.

Units you will cover consist of:

  • Providing facial skin care treatment
  • Enhancing the appearance of eyebrows and eyelashes
  • Waxing services
  • Manicure services
  • Pedicure services
  • Make-up services
  • Salon reception duties
  • Display stock.
  • Handle payments

Your assessment will consist of 75% practical tasks, 15% coursework and 10% exams. Practical assessments are carried out on paying clients in our commercial salons. Essential knowledge is covered through project research, case studies, written/practical assessments and online exams.

What could I progress on to?

This course is the perfect starting point for you to continue your training onto advanced studies such as the Level 3 Technical Diploma in Beauty or Level 3 Technical Diploma in Spa Therapy.

There are a number of career opportunities available to you in the Beauty Therapy industry such as: a Beauty consultant, Beauty therapist or Skin care specialist.

During the course you will be required to wear a uniform, which will cost approximately £60. You will also be required to purchase your kit for the year which will cost approximately £300. You may also have the opportunity to attend talks and visits throughout the year which may incur additional costs.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
