Level 2 Hairdressing

What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 4 GCSE's A*-C and grade 4-9 Including English, Maths and science subject or Equivalent Qualification

What will I learn?

During this one-year course you will learn a range of cutting, colouring and styling skills that will help you to start a career in this exciting and expanding industry.

Over the duration of the course you will learn a variety of theory based and practical hairdressing skills in our fully-equipped, commercial salon. You will gain a valuable learn experience as you advise and consult with paying clients about their hair. You will present yourself in a professional manner as you build confidence and skills in washing, shampooing, cutting, colouring, styling and drying hair.

You will cover a range of topics including:

  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Change hair colour
  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques
  • Perming
  • Plaiting

By the end of the course you will have built up a portfolio of your own styles, colours and cuts, which you will be able to take into further study or start your career in the industry.

Your practical skills will be assessed through observation and feedback while you work on paying clients in the salon. Theory knowledge will be assessed through a variety of assessments such as written assignments, presentations and exams.

What could I progress on to?

After completing the course you can progress onto the Level 3 Hairdressing course or start an apprenticeship

There will be a number of possible career opportunities available to you including working as a Stylist or Hairdresser in a salon, or working in television or theatre as a hairstylist, or even as a Wig maker or Trichologist.

You will be required to wear a uniform and purchase your own kit for the year which will cost approximately £260. You will also have the opportunity to visit professional shows, training days and conferences which may incur additional costs.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
