What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: Subject to meeting specific entry criteria-A full Level 2 Hairdressing qualification – Paper assessment, Trade test, good attendance and positive reference .

What will I learn?

This course is perfect if you have completed the Level 2 Hairdressing course and you are looking to learn more about the technical side of the industry.

Over the duration of the course you will learn more advanced cutting and styling techniques to produce magnificent end results. Our industry professional tutors will teach you in our fully-equipped, commercial salon, giving you a mix of theory and practical sessions. Along with advanced hairdressing techniques you will also develop your interpersonal skills and, at times, be responsible for running reception, being the salon manager and improving customer experience.

You will cover a range of topics including:

  • Advanced cutting and colouring
  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Promote additional services or products to customers
  • Provide hairdressing consultation services
  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
  • Colour hair using a variety of techniques
  • Provide colour correction services
  • Creatively style and dress hair
  • Creatively dress long hair
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities

Your practical skills will be assessed through observation and feedback while you work on paying clients in the salon. Theory knowledge will be assessed through a variety of assessments such as written assignments, presentations and exams. You will also build a portfolio of your work, which will be assessed, and that you can use to support your search for employment.

What could I progress on to?

After completing the course you may progress onto other commercial qualifications such as Beauty or Barbering to enhance your employability skills and extend the range of services you can offer.

You may wish to start your career in the industry and work as a salon employed stylist, a self-employed stylist, work towards becoming a salon owner, a sales rep, work as an events stylist, go into teaching or further study at university.

You will be required to wear a uniform and purchase your own kit for the year which will cost approximately £140. You will also have the opportunity to visit professional shows, training days and conferences which may incur additional costs.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
