Beauty Therapy: Spa Therapy Level 3

What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: Level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification, plus a paper assessment, Trade test, good attendance and positive reference.

What will I learn?

Over the duration of the course you will build on the knowledge and skills you have gained in previous study to include the commercial spa environment. You will learn and be able to perform a range of relaxing body massage treatments, including Hot Stones massage and Indian Head massage on paying clients. You will be able to recommend additional products to clients as you expand your knowledge in body wrapping and floatation treatments, while promoting the use of the College’s sauna, steam and hydrotherapy facilities.

During the course you will cover a range of topics including:

  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Promote additional products or services to customers
  • Provide body massage treatments
  • Provide stone therapy treatments
  • Sauna, steam and hydrotherapy treatments
  • Provide body wrapping and flotation treatments
  • Provide Indian head massage
  • Carry out massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities

Undertaking a work placement during the course will be very beneficial to you and will give you valuable experience of the commercial world of spa therapy as well as being an important feature of your CV.

During this one-year advanced course you will learn the more complex side of spa therapy treatments, helping to extend your skill set.

Your assessment will be made up of 60% practical, 20% coursework and 20% exams. You will be assessed and observed during treatments carried out on paying clients in our salon. Essential knowledge is covered through project research, case studies, written and practical assessments and online exams.

What could I progress on to?

There are many career opportunities after completing the course. You may consider further study onto the Level 4 Hair & Beauty Management, or other holistic therapy courses.

There are many career opportunities available to you after completing the course. For instance you may become a Massage Therapist, Beauty therapist, or a Beauty consultant, working in a salon, spa or hotel.

You will be required to wear a uniform and purchase your own kit for the year which will cost approximately £180. You will also have the opportunity to visit professional shows, training days and conferences which may incur additional costs.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
