What entry requirements do I need?
You will need a minimum of: 4 GCSE's A*-D or Equivalent Qualification including Maths and English at Grade D
What will I learn?
This hands-on course will develop your understanding and knowledge of vehicle maintenance preparing you for a career in the motor vehicle industry.
Our one-year VRQ qualification is designed to provide you with the essential skills and knowledge to become a vehicle technician. You will learn about the diverse aspects within the modern retail motor industry in our dedicated garages and workshops at our Automotive Training Centre. You will be trained on the diagnosis of non-complex system faults for light vehicles (cars and vans), gain a solid understanding of engine and chassis technology and understand the importance of health and safety in the workshop. You will also improve your English, maths, IT and employability skills during the year.
You will explore a range of topics including:
- Health and Safety
- Engineering skills
- Engine technology
- Chassis technology
- Transmission Technology
- Vehicle electrical and electronics
- Vehicle servicing
You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
Your assessments will be made up of 50% practical, 25% coursework and 25% exams.
What could I progress on to?
On completion of the course you can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles.
There are a number of career opportunities available to you after finishing this course, for instance you may find roles in the industry working as a Semi-skilled mechanic, working in vehicle sales, or perhaps join an apprenticeship or management training scheme.
There will be a small additional cost for the course as you will be required to wear safety boots and black work trousers during the course.
