Advanced Diploma in Personal Training

What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 4 GCSE's A*-D or Equivalent Qualification including Maths and English

What will I learn?

During this one-year course you will learn a range of skills and exercise techniques that will enable you to start a lucrative career in personal training.

During this course you will learn the essential skills and in-depth knowledge you need to be able to put together comprehensive training programmes for clients. You will use your passion for exercise to understand the principles fitness so that you can pass on your knowledge to others. You will learn how to conduct fitness testing and learn a range of advanced fitness techniques. Theory and practical sessions will take place in our fully-equipped gym, where you will be able to consult with clients about their fitness goals, and then create and deliver training and fitness programmes to meet their needs. Units you will cover during the course include:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Exercise and health
  • Planning and delivering personal training sessions
  • Principles of nutrition and physical activity
  • Fitness Testing
  • Advanced exercise technique
  • English, maths and IT skills

During the year you will have the opportunity to enter the CYQ fitness trainer competition, visit the FitPro live convention, Europe’s leading education event for fitness professionals, and build relationships with our employer opportunity day.

Your assessment will consist of 25% practical tasks, 50% written coursework and 25% exams.

What could I progress on to?

On completion of the course you can progress onto further study in areas such as Exercise Referral, Weight Management or Programming Physical Activity for Individuals with Low Back Pain

You may also look to start you career in the industry as a Fitness instructor, Personal trainer or become self employed.

You will be required to purchase the appropriate kit, including College branded polo shirt.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
