Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy

What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 5 GCSE's A*-C including English and maths. Equivalent Qualifications may be considered in exceptional circumstances.

What will I learn?

Using your passion for sport and your existing knowledge of the industry you will develop skills to be able to assist clients with injury prevention and injury management.

This one-year programme will increase your skill-set and train you in the prevention and management of sports injuries. You will learn a range of sports therapy and physiotherapist techniques that will allow you to work within sports clubs, hotels or progress onto a higher level of study. You will learn sports massage techniques in our therapy suite, and expand your knowledge in anatomy and physiology so that you can identify troubled areas on clients and give them the correct treatment. You will also be able to tape and strap minor sporting injuries and learn techniques in rehabilitation. You will study a range of topics including:

  • Sports massage
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Taping and strapping
  • Nutrition
  • Sports injuries and rehabilitation

You will be assessed through instruction and ongoing assessment, both practical and theory, directed assignments, research and supported individual study. There will also be a multiple choice exam paper to sit.

What could I progress on to?

On completion of the course you can progress on to a Level 4 qualification (e.g. Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy) or employment in the industry.

You may consider career opportunities including working as a Sport Therapist, Sports Massage Therapist, Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation, Sport Scientist, or a Personal Training/Exercise Instruction.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
