What will I learn?

If you are looking for a change in career or simply would like to learn the management and prevention of sports injuries.

Each course will run from 9.00am to 5.00pm. All course materials and light refreshments will be provided.

During this part-time programme you will train in and increase your knowledge of the management and prevention of sports injuries. Studied during one evening per week at our Station Plaza campus, you will learn a range of sports therapy and physiotherapist techniques that will help to further your career, allowing you to work within sports clubs, hotels, or progress onto a higher level of study. You will learn sports massage techniques in our therapy suite, and expand your knowledge in anatomy and physiology so that you can identify troubled areas on clients and give them the correct treatment. You will also be able to tape and strap minor sporting injuries and learn techniques in rehabilitation.

Modules and topics you will cover during the course will include:

  • Sports massage
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Taping and strapping
  • Nutrition
  • Sports injuries and rehabilitation

You will be assessed through instruction and ongoing assessment that will evaluate your practical and theoretical knowledge. There will also be a multiple choice exam paper to sit at the end of the course.

What could I progress on to?

On completion of the course you can progress on to a Level 4 qualification (e.g. Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy) or employment in the industry.

You may consider career opportunities including working as a Sport Therapist, Sports Massage Therapist, Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation, Sport Scientist, or a Personal Training/Exercise Instruction.

Sometimes it can be difficult to decide the right level at which to study. The guide below will help you work which level is best for you.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
