What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 4 GCSEs grade A*/9 - D/3 including English and maths. A reasonable level of sporting ability is required.

What will I learn?

Our Football Academy is a one-year course, offering you a range of qualifications and the opportunity to play football on a full-time basis. You will join other squad members in for Pre-season training in July. Our professional coaches will help you to improve your fitness, during training sessions at Horntye Sports Complex and our fully-equipped gym. You will develop your own skills as a coach during an Football Association coaching course, you will learn anatomy and physiology during theory classes, and have the opportunity to play up to 22 matches a season for College and Hastings United teams. You will buy into our squad ethos and present yourself in a professional manner at all times.

Our excellent links with professional football clubs and scouts mean that you may have the opportunity to be spotted and invited for trials. You will also have opportunities to develop your learning through trips and experienced guest speakers.

You will use your passion for football to help you improve your own footballing skills and ability, develop a range of coaching techniques and learn about sports theories.

You will be assessed throughout the year during exams, written assignments, and practical tests.

What could I progress on to?

On completion of this course you can progress on to further levels of the academy programme or any other sports programmes at the college. You may also decide to gain more industry specific qualifications such as Coaching and refereeing.

After completing the course, possible career options include: Playing Semi-professional football, becoming a football coach, refereeing, sports leader or recreational assistant.

Sometimes it can be difficult to decide the right level at which to study. The guide below will help you work which level is best for you.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
