BTEC Level 3 Subsidary Diploma in Sport

Who should take this course?

Those who are considering a career anywhere in the sport, fitness or health industries.

Why should I take this course?

This two year course will provide you with advanced skills and knowledge to prepare you to work within many sectors of the sports industry, and prepare you to progress to Higher Education.

In year 1 you will complete the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Sport before progressing to the Subsidiary Diploma in the second year. The full diploma is equivalent to one A level with the certificate equivalent to one AS level.

The course is taught over three lessons a week for the entirety of the academic year.

The provision is split between SCCH (theoretical elements), our fantastic on-site Plaza gym (fitness elements), and Horntye Park Sports Complex (practical sessions).

What will I study?

Year 1 – Certificate

  • Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
  • The Physiology of Fitness
  • Assessing Risk in Sport
  • Fitness Training and Programming

Year 2 – Diploma

  • During the second year students can pick from a range of 15 units* which are taught on the full time BTEC Sport course.

How long is this course?

2 years

What previous qualifications or experience do i need?

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A* to C

How will I be assessed?

All assessment is conducted internally comprising a range of assessment methods including practical sport and exercise, oral presentations and written coursework.

What qualifications will I achieve?

Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Sport

What can I do after completing this course?

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma provides access to a wide range of university courses in addition to preparing the student for work in the sport and fitness industry.

What are my career opportunities?

This Sport course prepares learners for Higher Education degrees in Sport and Exercise Science that can lead onto to the following careers:

  • Working in analytics for professional sports clubs
  • Sports medicine
  • Gym instructor/Personal trainer
  • Teaching

Alternatively students can gain employment in the sport and fitness industry in an entry level position.
