Level 3 Travel and Tourism

What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 5 GCSE's A*-C including English and maths. Equivalent Qualifications may be considered in exceptional circumstances.

What will I learn?

This one-year Level 3 course will increase your understanding of the world of travel and tourism.

Building on your knowledge of travel and tourism from previous study you will learn about the key features of some of the world’s best loved travel destinations, while learning key tactics in promoting and selling these destinations to holiday makers. You will look at the landscape of tourism in the UK, and undertake a project to plan, create and execute a guided tour to and around a popular town or place. Throughout the course you will meet industry professionals who will enhance your learning by passing on their experience. You will also have the opportunity to attend the leading travel trade exhibition, World Travel Market, at the Excel Centre in London.

  • Tourism in the UK
  • Overseas Representatives
  • Conferences and Events
  • Planning and Delivering Guided Tours
  • Investigating the Cruise Industry
  • Developing People in Travel and Tourism
  • Package Holidays
  • Holiday Park Hosts
  • Principles of Supervising Customer Service
  • Developing an Entertainments Programme
  • Work Placement (part of the extended Diploma in Year 2)

You will also undertake a period of work experience in an industry related organisation to gain valuable experience in the industry.

You will be assessed in a number of different ways including: Online examinations, role plays, Short answer question sheets, designing and developing industry materials, individual and group presentations, practical assessments such as Tour Guiding and Supervised Team building activities and written assignments.

What could I progress on to?

On completion of the first year you could prgoress onto the second year to complete the Extended Diploma. After the second year you could progress onto degree level courses at university.

There will also be a number of career opportunities available to you including working as a Retail Travel Consultant, a Tour Guide, Holiday Advisor (holiday rep), Overseas Supervisor, Euro camp Entertainment Officer, Holiday Park Hosts, First Class Lounge Concierge, Business Travel Management, Cruise Ship Personnel, Hotel Personnel (UK and Overseas), Tour Operator Personnel, or working in Conference and Event Management.

A high level of personal grooming is required for this course, plus approximately £280 to cover uniform, resources and materials, course-related trips and visits.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
